This blog…

…is a place where I infrequently post about work related topics. I’ve considered setting up a non-professional version for the rest of my life, but haven’t gotten around to it. It’s called ‘Who’s in control of your brand?’ because I wanted something cool sounding, but also it’s an interesting question to explore – does a brand manager/marketing manager really control it, or do customers, customer service teams, invoicing, legal or mainstream media? And it’s clearly all changing.

I’m lucky enough to…

…lead the strategy team at one of the best creative agencies in Australia, Visual Jazz (VJ’s Blog). I work on key clients and oversee all strategy work nationally. We’re a nimble & growing team of 8 (8 more than when I started in 2009) planners, consumer insights and data analysts.

We do…

…broad digital brand strategy & campaign planning through to comprehensive email, search & social media research, strategy and management. We’re developing the process and methodology from the ground up which means we’re able to craft quality thinking that’s 100% made for the current digital world. It’s not all roses though, as most of what we’re doing is new to the industry, finding good people is tough and there’s lots of trial and error.

Since I’ve been at Visual Jazz…

…we’ve helped a range of clients from Holden & DefenceJobs to the likes of National Foods, Porter Davis and Spirit of Tasmania. You’ll see some of what we do in campaign work, MobilesApps, social media, and lots of things you wont, like research, reporting and analysis.

Outside of work…

…I’ve been involved in a couple of business ventures, like Melbourne Bar Guide, Know Ballyhoo, Rotary, Love Digital and more recently a founder of Social Media Club Melbourne (#smcmelb @smcmelb).

We moved to Melbourne…

…in 2009, from little old Radelaide, where I was Head of Strategy at an awesome non-traditional agency called FNUKY, and was lucky to work along side David Campbell and where I met my partner Bec.

Looking ahead, I want to…

…work OS somewhere lik NY, Paris, Berlin or Brazil. But we’re staying in Melbourne for at least a couple of years so I can help build up Visual Jazz and build a base of friends in Melbourne as it’s officially our new home town.
